THE SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND COAL FIELDS

The high quality coal exported from the QBH terminal is mined in the West Moreton and Darling Downs Coalfields.

West Moreton has a long history. First discovered in 1825, it was yielding more than 100,000 tonnes per year by 1883.

Today, the West Moreton fields still produce exports which flow through QBH.

New Hope Corporation’s New Acland mine near Oakey on the Darling Downs is now well established with exports flowing through QBH since late 2002.

In early 1995, the first significant mine opened on the Downs. Located approximately 290 kilometres from the Port of Brisbane, the Peabody (Wilkie Creek) mine has pioneered the export of this vast coal reserve.

The extensive Darling Downs coalfields promise immense future potential.

The combination of established but still highly productive coalfields, extensive reserves and QBH’s carefully-guarded reputation will be a winner.

The characteristics and quantity of the coal exported from the terminal at the Port of Brisbane will continue to give it a competitive edge on world markets.

QBH’s commitments to reliability, flexibility and quality control will make sure that edge is maintained for many decades to come.
